Stake.com is the world’s biggest cryptocurrency casino. The operator recently donated $1 million worth of bitcoin (25.63 BTC) as humanitarian aid to Ukraine. While multiple gaming operators around the world have suspended services to Russia due to their invasion of Ukraine, Stake.com which is run by an Australian operator has not issued any restrictions on Russian gamblers.
Stake.com had announced that they were donating to the Ukrainian cause on their Twitter handle. The post also featured a picture of the crowd holding up yellow and blue cards to represent Ukraine’s flag at a recent Premier League game where Stake.com sponsored Watford FC was playing. The company emphatically declared its support for the innocent masses trapped in the conflict.
Recently, two noted news portals accessed the company’s website via a virtual private network (VPN) software making it appear that a customer from Russia was accessing it. Stake.com denied its presence in the country on the basis that it was blocked by Roskomnadzor, Russia’s communications regulator.
The company confirmed that it offers services in several languages including Russian as many people speak the language even outside Russia. Even though it was brought to their attention that one can use access the casino from Russia, the operator will not take any steps as of now to ban Russian players completely. Stake.com said that it was monitoring transactions and considering appropriate actions to comply with the international sanctions against Russia.
Stake.com offers several classic games such as roulette, slots and blackjack and sports betting services covering popular sports and events like the Indian Wells tennis tournament, the English Premier League, basketball and American baseball. Stake.com is registered and licensed in Curaçao but operates out of Melbourne, Australia.
Russian gamblers are regular customers at online casinos. Businesses based in Russia frequently support the online casino sector via support services, live dealer games, and software. Many gaming providers based in the US and UK have suspended Russian punters to avoid associating with politically exposed individuals or those who have ties with any sanctioned entities playing through casinos.
Britain’s gambling regulator cautioned providers against any suspicious Russian customers and encouraged them to apply a risk-based approach. Several American sportsbook providers like Superbook, DraftKings, and Caesars have imposed restrictions by refusing bets on Russian sporting events.
