Caesars Strengthens Self-Exclusion Program With Expansion

Caesars Entertainment is set to implement new changes to its responsible gaming policies to tackle problem gambling. The company will launch a universal self-exclusion program covering both its online and land-based gaming offerings, and will also increase the age restriction for its loyalty scheme. The new changes will come into effect this March, coinciding with Problem Gambling Awareness Month.

Expansion of Self-Exclusion Program

Self-exclusion programs play a crucial role in helping people deal with gambling addiction. Through the scheme, customers may decide to voluntarily ban themselves from gaming venues and online gambling platforms for a set period. They only need to sign up for the scheme and the gambling provider will then facilitate their request.

Caesars is looking to strengthen its self-exclusion program by expanding it across its entire gaming portfolio. This means that individuals on a self-exclusion list in any of the states where Caesars operates will be banned from all gaming facilities and platforms run by the company. The policy will cover both online/mobile and in-person gambling, including Caesars Sportsbook, with customers also having the option to add their names to the list.

Kate Whiteley, spokeswoman for Caesars, said expanding the self-exclusion program has been one of the company’s priorities and they’re glad that the new policy will finally be rolled out by the end of March, at a time when there are heightened discussions about responsible gambling.

The implementation of the self-exclusion program can be very challenging especially as it is the affected person who needs to register. Meaning, family members, friends, and loved ones cannot add the person’s name to the list on his/her behalf.

There are also instances when individuals already on the list are still able to enter casinos and play. They are only identified when they are required to present an ID to claim a jackpot.

Whiteley said Caesars have methods in place to spot excluded gamblers playing at its gaming facilities.

Raising the Age Restriction for Caesars Rewards

Apart from expanding its self-exclusion program, Caesars is also planning to raise the age restriction for its loyalty scheme, Caesars Rewards, to over 21. This means only customers above 21 years old will be eligible for a Caesars Rewards account. The same age restriction will apply to Caesars’ domestic gaming, pari-mutuel, sport, and iGaming offerings.
