Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has expanded its operations to Serbia, courtesy of its existing partnership with iGaming operator Betsson.
The latter recently entered the Balkan country with the launch of its online casino brand Rizk.
The Rizk platform is part of Zecure Gaming Limited, a B2C firm previously owned by GiG. Betsson acquired Zecure Gaming from GiG in April 2020 under a €33 million deal. With Rizk now live in Serbia, GiG embarks on a new journey in a new and emerging market alongside Betsson.
Andrew Valenzia, Commercial Director of Zecure Gaming at Betsson, expressed his confidence in Rizk’s potential to be the leading online casino site in Serbia, a booming market that offers exciting opportunities for the group.
Online gambling is a rapidly growing industry in Serbia which is projected to generate nearly €120 million in revenue in 2023. Going forward, the sector is expected to grow by more than 8%, based on figures recorded so far for the second half of the year.
Increased Focus on CEE Markets
Marcel Elfersy, Chief Commercial Officer at GiG, said Serbia and the entire Central and Eastern European (CEE) region is a key focus of growth for the company as it continues to develop iGaming solutions for its partner operators.
Bringing its user-centric and scalable approach to the table, GiG aims to build more partnerships across the globe, helping operators establish a personalized platform that aligns with their demands and expectations.
The CEE region, along with Central Asia (CA), is also a major contributor to Betsson’s solid Q2 performance. The company’s successful entry to Serbia comes on the back of a 27% increase in revenue between April and June, with both of the company’s CEE and CA divisions accounting for the majority (68%) of the €236.8 million recorded during the three-month period. Betsson already operates in Greece, Georgia, and Croatia.
Betsson President and CEO Pontus Lindwall said they’re looking forward to offering the best customer experience and online casino service in Serbia through the Rizk platform.
Market expansions via Rizk also represent significant growth for GiG being the developer of the platform.
Prior to Rizk’s launch in Serbia, GiG also secured a media and marketing compliance deal with Merkur, an online casino brand owned by German gambling provider Gauselmann Group. GiG’s services will enable Merkur to be fully compliant with the regulations and requirements of Germany’s GlüNeuRStv regime.
