IGC Grants Casino License To Churchill Downs For Vigo County Casino

Churchill Downs (CDITH LLC) will be very pleased after it was awarded a casino license by the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) to develop a casino resort in Vigo County, Indiana.

The commission carried out a vote and it came out 7-0 in favour of Churchill Downs.

Four Operators Proposals Considered

The IGC were looking at proposals from four casino operators. These proposals came from Full House Resorts, Churchill Downs, Premier Gaming and Hard Rock International. The proposals from Premier Gaming and Hard Rock International did not make the cut. The commission decided to first vote to give the casino license to Full House Resorts but it got a 5-2 vote and failed.

Prior to the vote, the four applicants presented their proposal at a public hearing. They had 30 minutes to outline what their casino proposal will bring to the table. Churchill Downs put forward the most impressive proposal for their Terre Haute casino and were shortlisted.

Queen of Terre Haute

The new casino from Churchill Downs will be called “Queen of Terre Haute casino“. The operator is committed to investing $190 million to develop this casino resort. The majority of this investment ($110 million) will be poured into the construction of this casino resort that will cover 392,816-square-foot with the gaming floor taking up 56,400 square feet.

The casino floor is expected to have 1,000 slot machines and 50 table games. It will also a house a retail TwinSpires sportsbook. There are also plans on the table to develop a 125 room luxury hotel. During the construction phase, a total of 1,000 construction jobs will be created and once the casino resort opens full time, 500 permanent jobs will be created.

Churchill Downs is also committed to developing a $35 million Terre Haute Convention Center. They will also create a Special Events room that will complement the Convention Center and have a seating capacity of 500. The operator estimates that this new casino resort will provide services to 1.3 million patrons each year and be able to handle a total of 6,600 patrons at full capacity.

Churchill Downs says that once the casino is fully functional, it should bring in $638.9 million in gross gaming revenues in a 5 year period.
