Landing International had earlier announced that Jeju Shinhwa World Casino was likely to open by the end of 2017. The opening has now been postponed and will most likely take place this month but no official date has been confirmed as of now. One of the reasons for the delay in opening is because Landing is waiting for the local government to grant them permission to relocate an existing casino at another Jeju venue.
In a statement, Landing International said
We have submitted our application to relocate our casino in Hyatt Regency Jeju to Jeju Shinhwa World to the Jeju government in December 2017. The Jeju government is currently processing our application and we expect the casino transfer to be approved by the Jeju government after the next sitting of the Jeju congress in February 2018
At present, the promoter for Jeju Shinhwa World operates a casino with 16 slots, 28 gaming tables, and electronic table games (EGT's) at the Hyatt Regency Jeju Hotel. Landing International wants to have 240 slots, 160 gaming tables and EGT’s to end up in Jeju Shinhwa World. They plan to have all of located at one of the hotels in Jeju Shinhwa World, which is the Jeju Shinhwa World Marriot Resort.
Jeju Shinhwa World
While the Jeju Shinhwa World casino opening has been postponed, there are still a number of facilities opened to the public. Some of these facilities currently in operation include the aforementioned Marriot Resort, YG Republique (a Kpop-themed zone), Landing Convention Centre, the Shinhwa Theme Park, Somerset Jeju Shinhwa World, and Shinhwa Shoppes.
Landing International has also refuted a report by the media that it had requested local employees to take leave as a cost-cutting measure. The company clarified that the workers were merely told to ‘clear their annual leave at year end’, which is supposed to be a common market practice. According to the firm's spokesperson, the company will keep offering training to their staff at their casino before Jeju Shinhwa World is officially opened. Landing International Development has hired nearly 2,000 employees to work at Jeju Shinhwa World.
