Maryland Live! Sees Record Participants At Minority Outreach Fair
The Maryland Live! Casino which is owned by the Cordish Companies and Md. Washington Minority Companies Association (MWMCA) recently collaborated to host the Semi-Annual Minority Outreach Fair which looks to provide minority based businesses with opportunities to do business with Cordish companies.
The fair saw a record number of participants attend the event as more than 650 businesses registered to see what business opportunities they could avail.
The applicants came from small, women and minority owned businesses that wanted to do business with the Maryland Live!
Casino, government agencies, construction companies, public utility concerns and a number of suppliers. Information on the available business and contract opportunities were made available and these minority groups had the opportunity to apply for whatever contracts they felt they could handle.
Some of the enterprises who were offering minority groups these business opportunities included the Hollywood Casino, Horseshoe Casino Baltimore, Casino at Ocean Downs, Rocky Gap Casino & Resort, Clark Construction Group, Tutor Perini Building Corp, Bank of America, PNC Bank, MD Dept. of Transportation, MD Lottery & Gaming Control Agency and the MD Dept. of Human Resources. There were special one-on-one matchmaking sessions conducted to see which minority based businesses were best suited to meet the needs of each of these businesses enterprises.
In a statement, Zed Smith, Chief Operating Officer of Cordish said
The Cordish Companies is committed to being a leader in providing economic opportunity to minority, women and veteran-owned businesses and residents in the communities in which we operate. Our commitment includes not only providing direct opportunities in our own businesses, but also assisting MBE/WBE/VBE companies and individuals in reaching out to the business community in general. We believe our efforts help strengthen communities and look forward to continuing and expanding these types of outreach events.
The semi-annual events have been taking place for a number of years but this time around the number of registrations was the highest so far. Over three thousand MBE and top companies have collaborated via these minority outreach fairs organized by Maryland Live! Casino and around thirty percent of these MBE’s have successfully managed to secure new business from the contacts made at these minority fairs.
Minority businesses who would like more information about these fairs can visit www.mwmca.org. The next fair is expected to take place in June 2016 and those vendors who would like to attend the event must register in advance with the State of Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency.
