Massachusetts Gaming & Wynn Resorts Face Lawsuit From Steve Wynn

Steve Wynn, billionaire and founder of Wynn Resorts has been relatively quiet since he had to step down from his post former post of chairman Wynn Resorts. The casino tycoon was forced to relinquish his position after allegations emerged of sexual misconduct in January via a Wall Street Journal article.

Wynn Resorts which was in the process of developing its multi-billion dollar Wynn Harbor Casino Resort in Massachusetts faced a number of issues where opponents pushed for the casino license to be revoked and for an investigation to be launched into Steve Wynn’s background.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) launched an investigation and Wynn Resorts parted ways with its chairman and also changed the name of the proposed casino from Wynn Harbor to Encore Boston Harbor.

Steve Wynn has had his fair share of legal fights over the years and one thing is clear is that he is tenacious and always up for a fight. His legal team recently filed lawsuits against the MGC as well as Wynn Resorts.

Steve Wynn isn’t very happy over the fact that his former company has shared a lot of personal information without his consent with MGC and as a result the lawsuit looks to prevent MGC from publishing any of its findings resulting from privileged information being shared.

The legal filing said

Mass Gaming officials have simply donned the judge’s robe, cracked the gavel, and unilaterally determined that Mr. Wynn has failed to sustain his burden of establishing that any privilege applies to the unknown universe of documents acquired during the Mass Gaming investigation

The lawsuit also alleged that Wynn Resorts had shared with MGC information regarding Steve Wynn which was limited to attorney/client privileges and also information on certain agreements that he had signed with Wynn Resorts.

Gaming Commission Responds To Lawsuit

MGC released a statement concerning the Steve Wynn lawsuit and stated that they were not surprised considering that Wynn has history of taking legal action. However, the commission also claimed that they were prepared for this and had hired their own legal team in Nevada to fight Wynn’s appeal to stop them from sharing their detailed investigative report.

The Commission believes that these legal proceedings will be dealt with swiftly and will not stop their investigators from submitting a detailed report of the investigation to the commission MGC is expected to hold its next meeting in December but it is not clear if the investigative report will be presented at this meeting.
