Mohegan Sun Pocono Pulls Back From Major Events

Mohegan Sun Pocono, one of Pennsylvania’s tribal casinos will be making several changes to its events calendar and also to other areas like valet parking according to a recent statement made by the company.

Tony Carlucci, president and CEO of Mohegan Sun Pocono has announced that the casino will not be holding a fireworks display for July 4th celebrations this year, the first time in 14 years.

Carlucci said that instead Mohegan Sun would be contributing to the City of Wilkes-Barre’s July 4th fireworks event. He stated that the casino would be the largest financial sponsor of this year’s event being held at Kirby Park.

Mohegan Sun Pocono is also not planning on holding the Oktoberfest event this year. The casino has held the annual event previously in partnership with local firm Times-Shamrock Communications.

In a statement Carlucci said

We’re always evaluating our events across Mohegan Sun Pocono, those of the annual variety included. In doing so for PA Oktoberfest, which was a partnership with Times-Shamrock, keeping both what is best for our guests in mind as well as what is best for Mohegan Sun Pocono from a business standpoint, we decided it was in the best interest to take this year off and continue to evaluate this fall event.

He noted that the event might return later after a full revamp. Rob Miller, director of strategic marketing and business analytics for Times-Shamrock Communications has indicated that it will host the Oktoberfest this year and is currently looking for alternate venues.

Another change being introduced at Mohegan Sun Pocono is that valet parking will be charged from July 5 onwards. Carlucci said that the decision had been taken after considering existing norms across Pennsylvania casinos. He said that after a review, it was decided that it was another area in which more loyal guests must be rewarded.

Valet charges will not exceed $6, and will vary according to membership levels in the casino’s loyalty program ‘Momentum’. Those at Ignite level will be charged $3 while those at levels of Ascend, Leap and Soar will enjoy free valet parking. Guests reach the program’s various levels by earning status points through their playing patterns. Carlucci said that as guests climb up through the levels, their benefits will also increase.

Some of the other smaller changes include the downsizing of free craft beer offered to gamers. Carlucci said that 16-ounce draft beers would now be 12 ounces and the length of concerts held at the site will also be reduced.
