Sands China Confirms Londoner Macau Will Open Before Chinese New Year

Sands China which is the Asian subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands Corp. has confirmed that it will open its London Macau casino before Chinese New Year (CNY) which takes place in Feb 2020.

London Macau was scheduled to open earlier this year but COVID-19 slowed things down a bit and it was a race for Sands China to get it opened in time for CNY. London Macau is expected to open in Jan 2021.

Macau is the biggest gambling hub in the world and home to some of the most prestigious casino brands and multi-billion dollar casinos in the world. Sands Corp. brings in the majority of its gross gaming revenues (GGR) from its Macau operations. The company invested $2.2 billion to transform its Sands Cotai Central project into the new London Macau casino.

London Macau has the name suggests has been made over to reflect the city of London. This is the second location themed casino that Sands China has opened in Macau, the first being the Parisian Macau which is based on the city of Paris. The Parisian Macau opened its doors to the public in September 2016.

Londoner Macao 澳門倫敦人

Sands China has already started accepting room reservations for Phase 1 of London Macau from January 22. CNY starts on Feb 12 and is the biggest festival and holiday in Mainland China.

China shuts down during CNY and millions of Chinese will travel to neighbouring Macau during the two week shutdown. Most of them will end up visiting the casinos in Macau to enjoy gaming and non-gaming activities. This period is a very lucrative period for Macau casinos and is why Sands China strived hard to get the London Macau casino resort opened to capitalize on the CNY rush.

Gaming and Non-Gaming Activities

The London Macau is going to attract the attention of Chinese tourists because it is a new property and tourists will be interested in seeing what it has to offer. The old Sands Cotai Central had over 2000 slot gaming machines and over 400 table games. Expect the gaming offerings at London Macau to be even better.

When it comes to non-gaming options, London Macau will have a number of popular hotel brands. You can book in at the Sheraton Grand Macau Hotel which has over 4,000 rooms, the Londoner apartment hotel which has 363 units, Conrad Macau which has over 650 rooms, The Londoner Hotel with over 590 suites and the St. Regis Macau which has 400 rooms.
