Station Casinos Move Forward With Durango Resort Expansion
Summary:
- Station Casinos has presented its plans to expand the newly opened Station Casinos in the southwest Las Vegas valley.
- The company wants to extend the parking capacity at Durango Resort by adding 2,500 parking spaces.
- The new casino area would be located to the northwest of the parking garage.
In December 2023, Station Casinos held the grand opening of its newest property in southwest Las Vegas valley, Durango Resort.
The resort located at Durango Drive near the 215-Beltway is now ready to expand just months after its strong debut in the local market.
New Parking and Casino Areas
According to an agenda item that was filed for Wednesday’s Clark County Zoning Commission meeting, Station Casinos is prepared to build a new garage in the southeast section of the current parking lot.
The new parking area, which will be located north of Maule Avenue, would offer thousands of new parking spaces and will feature a basement level, rooftop parking, a ground level with valet services, and five or six floors.
The proposed US casino area would be built to the northwest of the new parking garage, and the expanded casino floor would connect the original building to the garage development.
However, the agenda did not include any renderings of the casino additions.
During an investor call in May, the company’s executive vice president, Stephen Cootey, expressed confidence that Durango was “well on its way to achieving both its margin target and to return goal even faster than originally planned” at the end of a full quarter.
Executives also took the opportunity to tease the fact that they were exploring the idea of expanding the property by the end of 2024 or the beginning of next year.
However, the submitted papers did not include a construction timeline.
Phase Two Plans
Previously approved plans for phase two of the project would allow Station Casinos to build another hotel tower and consider an expansion of the Durango Resort.
This would carry the hotel’s capacity to a total of 578 rooms and over 104,000 square feet of casino floor.
The company could also expand the banquet hall space and the ancillary entertainment options, with plans for a bowling center, a movie theater, and a pool events center on the potential list.
