The United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) recently released statistics which showed that both the land based and online gambling industry in the country is thriving and is expected to continue to do well in the months to come.
The UKGC report showed that the total gross gambling yield (GGY) between Oct 2016 to Sep 2017 stood at £13.9 billion which was a .7 percent increase when compared to the April 2016 to March 2017 period.
One of the reasons for the strong performance in the gambling sector during this period is due to the contribution of the iGaming industry. Brits love their online casino games and UK facing online casinos deliver in this regard by providing them with a wide selection of games. There are the classic table games on offer such as blackjack, roulette, poker and baccarat along with hundreds of popular online slots.
Live casino games have also become a hit in the UK as players get to enjoy an interactive experience with a live dealer and other live players across the country. The report shows that the iGaming industry brought in £4.9 billion in GGY during the period between October 16 to Sep 17 which is a 35 percent contribution of the GGY.
It’s not just that iGaming industry that is growing across the UK. Land based casinos and betting shops are also flourishing. As of now there are over 180,000 slot machines throughout the country. Data also shows that there are around 8,532 betting shops across the country, 649 bingo parlours and 152 land based casinos in the UK.
The UK gambling industry also provides employment to more than 100,000 employees and those numbers are expected to go up during the coming months. The growth of the gambling industry is positive in many ways but there are also concerns due to the fact that problem gambling is increasing.
The UK will join forces with Ireland to host the first ever combined ‘Responsible Gambling Week’ which runs from Nov 1 to Nov 7.
